A friend in Austalia sent me these photo's E-mail and they state that it is logging in the Northwest. Hosted on FotkiThis one is titled................ How tough were these guys. When the Northwest logging industry was still young. Hosted on FotkiJust look at the length of the hand saw they needed And look at the size of the heavy duty axes Hosted on FotkiThe work required very strong and courageous men Hosted on FotkiAfter a tree was felled the real work began - a week or more to cut it up Hosted on FotkiManeuvering the logs down the mountain was a complex job Hosted on FotkiSome of the logs were larger than the train engine Hosted on FotkiA hollowed out log became the company's mobile office Hosted on FotkiHollowed out logs were also used to house and feed the crews These are the titles supplied by the E-mail Enjoy a look at the past or perhaps........................ the beginning. If not for the industrial revolution and all of the modern tools to make "work" easier, I suspect that todays youth could not and would not even consider working in such a physically demanding enviroment. Especially when one considers the "pay of the day" back then.

Ive seen these pictures before in a bookI have. The top buch are from the Sierra Nevada area and are sequoia redwoods. The Pic showing the riggers moving the turn down the hill is taken above the Elk River area of Eureka, California. The train is on the Old Elk River line south of Eureka and the engine was at one time on display at Fort Humboldt Logging museum in the bucks port area of Eureka. The office truck in the pictures is from Washington State and belonged to a logging out fit around Snosqualmie area.
Its really amazing how they logged in those days with Misery whips, Axes, spring boards, ect. and then moved those huge turns by horse, mule, oxen and steam.
Very good reps of the Northwest Logging.

When I posted this I had added that it looked like the Redwood area to me and then deleted it. I just had an idea. By the way William, I don't think that you even had 1 day off. Mike
