All of my trucks have to be rebuilt after falling into disrepair (long story) and I'm starting with this one. Using the most recent reissue of the Astro, I came up with this: As you can see it was cut into a daycab. Other mods include working steering, working hydraulic cab lift cylinders, plumbing the air lines on the frame as well as some engine detail. Unfortunately, here's how it sits now. The steering axle needs to be replaced, hence the new frame section in the background. I never did put "glass" in my rear windows, so that will be one change. It also needs a new steer axle to be installed. Thanks to Ray(R766ST) for the new Astro front frame section seen in the background in white. It was sent a long time ago. Now I can finally work on it. I'll be going with a fleet look with the rebuild, doing things like stripping the chrome off the bumper, then shortening and painting it. Now, I just have to decide on a fleet and trailer for it. I hope to have this redone before too long. Thanks for taking a peek.

Should be interesting. I know that ANR used to run red single-axle Astro daycabs. Then there's always Yellow Freight Lines or UPS.

It is always nice to see a model get rebuilt and most often improved at the same time. And being from the East coast I used to see a lot of trucks like this. looking forward to your progress reports.

This rebuild has taught me that DupliColor paint doesn't strip very easily. The paint was coming off, but, the forward section of the cab didn't hold up to my scrubbing. So, as you can see, I have a spare cab I can employ. I can use the rear section still from my original build, and I will. The cut at the rear edge of the forward section was kind of rough, so maybe this time I can make a smooth cut so the sections will join up nicely. Not much of an update, but right now, any progress is good for me.

I am so glad to see those mirrors. I thought that they ran them before the West Coast Mirrors but then my mind said that it was playing tricks on me and that they never ran these. AHa! A model with the old type. Mike

They are from an original issue Chevy Titan kit. The truck in the brochure I used for reference had them, so I thought, "why not?"

Since I get to be home this weekend I can make some more progress. I have my new cab cut down. It's still being sanded at the seams, but I decided to go completely with the new cab rather than use the original back wall. I have the old rear section clamped to it as a guide to cut my new rear windows. Once the bodywork is done, I'll get some more pix. just wanted to update. Now for a teaser on its intended trailer. What we have here is a 40' trailmobile exterior post van. This was made using 2 of the 27' AMT Trailmobile trailers. If you have the doubles kit, everything you need is in one box. I started it years ago but only got as far as lengthening the side walls. I thought it would be the perfect fit for this truck. I'll post more tonight since I'm working the engine and frame. That's mostly just cleanup, there, so I should have some good progress on it later.
