I was wondering if anybody on here makes there own decals, and if so could or would be willing to make me a set if I could show what I wanted. My wife has tried but has not had any luck. Thanks for any help. Dave

Dave,
My son makes all of his, if you could just get a hold of him. I'll try and contact him again.

In many of my models where i have needed custom decals, i have printed these on a inkjet printer, using graphics art film. Chat-pak is one of the manufactures. To make white letters on a colored backround, i would use the base color to back fill in around the letters. this film is a ultra thin peel-n-stick type. See the attached photo for an example of this. Ap40 Attachments:

I use a Alps MD-1500 printer with 8.5X11 clear water slide decal sheets to print my decals. The Apls uses 4 ribbon cartridges instead of ink. Only problems are it is Windows XP based and they stopped making the Alps brand in 2000, parts and supplies are getting a bit hard to find but they are out there. I went to school for graphics arts so that helps me in designing my own work. You can print all colors including white, gold, silver and metallic colors. If you can find one pick it up it really is a good printer. Ebay has them and they can be quit high in price but worth it if you get one. I am not even going to mention how I got mine, but luck was on my side. Here is an my latest decals I printed using metallic gold, white, cyan, yellow, magenta and black: 1/16 W90 oil field winch truckl logo.

This is just further proof that I got right royally shafted recently with my custom decals... for those of you who haven't heard about this debarcle, I got some decals done for my Lonestar wrecker, when they arrived they were less than impressive. The main stripe which was meant to be a metallic bronze was 'pixelated' (it looked like it was full of dots instead of being a solid colour), this was just one of numerous faults with them. The guy I bought them off got defensive and said that 'this is what the results from decal printers are like' and tried telling me that I wouldn't get better. To his credit, he did give me a full refund (but sent me half a dozen emails bitching about it before and after).
kvarrato, these decals are now the third example I've seen since, that goes to show you can get a lot better... the colours and details on your decals are brilliant.
