Hello All...I will probably get dinged and sent to a different category but here goes, my dad hauled all of his own equipment with a Page lowbed that rested on the front bunks minus the stakes and stinger…so truly is still a log truck in disguise When home last month I retrieved all my glue bombs that were still (28 years later) in drawers in my old room. After weeks in the purple this photo represents what is left of 1.5 old Pete California Haulers I will try to make into a 60’s narrow nose 358…I also bought a Revel Pete snapkit for more donor parts (cheep at 19bucks)
Dose anyone out there have pics or a PDF copy of the AMT Cal Hauler directions??

Prying, sawing, cutting, scraping, sanding and a little bit of gluing…2 steps forward 1.5 back…but we did put some Gulf of Alaska miles behind us, Dutch Harbor 800 miles ahead. I did get a 358 narrow nose conversion from P&P just used it as a template and have sliced and reassembled the nose and grill form my glue bomb is it me or was the nose longer on some of these old trucks? (will try to post a pic of the 62 Pete im refrencing)

I will cut a few scale inches off the bottom of the cab, as the older cabs were smaller and had no skirt below the door Attachments:

Interesting project and good to see those older built up models being rebuilt instead of scrapped. "Needle nose" Petes and KW's are true classics, I did a 351 in 1/43 scale, your project is a lot more involved. Will be well worth it when complete.
As for hood length, the Model 358 page of "Peterbilt: The Evolution of Class" shows a profile drawing of 358 cab & chassis. It indicates BBC of 119-1/4" and an asterisk with quote "Dimensions may vary with certain engines in some models. See data book or consult factory" so I believe some did have longer hoods to suit which engine the customer spec'd.

Right, the longer hood was needed for the Cat 1693T/A, Cummins NTA-370 & the DDC 12V-71. All 3 of these engines are longer than the standard power plants of the time. Ap40

119" is that overall length from front of grille to back of cab? Is there anywhere online that has the drawings from "The Evolution of Class" book? also while im at it, looking for basic dimentions for the old D7 17A Cats. Ritchie Bros (the auction guys) have spec sheets for many, but nothing this old... ah, BBC= bumpet to back of cab
