Truck looks great. After all that work it needs an engine. Warren Being a curbside, it will get a dummy block & the kits 4x4 married box transmission. Ap40

Great work on everything. How did you remake the weatherstrip on the windshield?

Great work on everything. How did you remake the weatherstrip on the windshield? Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards It is a process, that i will do in a up coming "How 2", but for now in a nut shell, I cut out the bad, bond in new styrene (oversize) & grind, file, putty, prime to correct. I have considered casting one, but that still leaves me (and everyone else) with a box of junky cabs. I did the complete patterns for both the set forward & set back Diamond Reo Raider kits that are offered by AITM. www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/ck77raideraxleback.html & www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/ck78raideraxleforward.htmlAp40

A little more kit fixing / detailing on the truck chassis. I did not like the one piece solid fuel tank steps from another kit, so a little rework & etched metal mesh for those. The log trailer kit comes with a pair of solid steps with no detail, so i cut out the center area, added diamond mesh & mounting bolt heads. Also the log trailer kit comes with a common tube mounted pair of quarter fenders. again, with out mounting harware, just brackets. so a little bit of bent copper wire solved that one, well 4. Ap40

Now i have never liked the AMT solid one piece molded Hendrickson walking beam suspensions, even though i did not make them oscillate, i felt some missing bolt heads for the trunion caps would help, along with filling in the back side where the kit parts are "cored" out to make the injection moldings more consistent. In addition, a little bit of drilling & filling was done to open up the kits solid inter axle drive shaft. As more gets fixed on this "quick" build, the more is noticed that needs a little work. But at least the cab & hood are getting the 1st coat of paint. Ap40

Now back on the trailer. In Muleskinner's how too article for correcting the AMT Peerless roadrunner kit, he had added 4 stiffening tubes to the trailer frame. So i said "why not", also since the kit as is, has the trailer bogie in a fixed position That just had to be corrected. So after modifying the spring trunion tubes & reworking the trailer frame trunion mounts a new trunion bar was needed. Here i used a chunk of .125" (1/8' or 3.2mm) ABS rod. on one end a trailer type bolt cab is attached, while the other side is bonded to the spring. this way when it is assembled, it will oscillate freely when placed on the back of the truck. together now there is enough oscillation for the trailer bogie to ride how ever placed on the back of the truck. Also the 4 added stiffening tubes have been added to the trailer frame. a little rework & a reinforcing bar added across the top of tail light / mud flap brackets. Real rubber mudflaps will be added after painting. All for now Ap40

Rick, How much time do you have in this quick build so far?? lol I really like it . And while I always like to learn about the trucks and the models of them. Your corrected cab looks good. However I will stick to my basic building , much less stressful. Besides getting stuff sent over here is a royal pain. But this model is looking good. As do all of yours. I am looking forward to following this build.
Be Well Gator

I have used this as something to do while 2 patterns i am working on, wait for either putty to dry or glued joints to set up. What is best about all this, at least for me it it is SO relaxing. I don't get upset at the things that need fixing, it is just a combination of me wanting it look real & I take into account the technology at when the kit(s) were originally tooled back in the 1970's. Sometimes we seem to forget that Round 2 is not only running tooling that is 35+ years old, but also these have been shipped to the other side of the globe & during the time of Racing Champions all of the tooling numbers were ground off, molds opened up & all of the inserts were mixed up. Just by unsealing the molds & leaving them open for years has resulted in deformation, rust & corrosion & misplaced inserts. Far to often i read other folks on other forums P&M (pi$$ & Moan) about how bad & simple these old kits are, when they are used to 1 or 2 year old Italeri or RoG kits. If ignorance is bliss, why then aren't more people happy? Ap40

Rick,
It is truely amazing what some plastic strip, wire and bolt heads can do to transform a model. The model looks fantastic and actually has me wanting to get to work on something (maybe a Pacific P-512S started years ago or another Paystar).
Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see the hood and paint scheme you are going to use. The front lower grill components have me confused.
Can't wait for more pictures!

So a few updates tonight, as tomorrow will be paint day on the chassis, trailer and so on. I did not like the kits mudflaps (truck or trailer) so it seemed fitting to make it better. A pair of mounts & a chunk of 1/8" styrene tube mounted across the top of the chassis. Now everything that is attached to a truck chassis uses some sort of hardware, in this case U-bolts & brackets under the frame channel. Now onto the cab guard, started with the Peerless kit vertical assembly & added new details, tool rack & driver cat walk above the cab. And of course more U-bolts & other mounting hardware. Ap40

Now since i need to have the cab guard off for painting, BUT still need to have the mounting hardware. So on the underside of the frame rails the brackets & bolt heads are glued to the channel. & the "bolts" are mounted to the cab guard. Ap40
