Hello all from Ontario Canada, this is another one of my projects, almost done... The model started out as an AMT Delivery Truck, but converted to a tractor that closely resembles what my uncle used as an "engine puller" and a "salvage dragger" as a heavy equipment mechanic in New Brunswick back in the 70's and 80's. I remember he nicknamed it "Yard Ape" after seeing the movie "Any Way But Loose" and seeing "Clyde" tear things apart.
My uncle's truck had a 318 Detroit and 13 speed road ranger, I built this model up with a 800hp twin turbo 8-71 blown 3208 engine with the supplied Allison auto transmission. Used a 1/32 scale scissor crane with some mods to closely resemble the original setup.
I used the remnants of an Italeri Mack Superliner kit as well as parts from Revell's snap-fit peterbilt to buildup the Ford. Now I just have to glue on some accessories and wire/plumb the darn thing.
Hope you like the pics. JIMMY

Hey there AP40, regarding the Yard Ape motor, I was inspired by a drag race Freightliner Conventional which had the 8v92 Detroit mounted behind the cab, that motor was obviously supercharged as all Detroit 2 strokes were, but it also had 2 huge turbo chargers, making about 1700hp and 3000ft/lbs of torque !
I built the Louisvilles' original V8 (3208) to mimic the big Detroit drag motor, it has a correct scale 8-71 blower, Cat 3408 style injection pump, scratch built 104mm turbos to which the likes of 60 to 110 psi of boost would be seen in the intake. This motor would produce a low of 800hp and about 1400hp at full boost.
It was a real stretch combining the memories of my uncles' old "picker" with the motor of a drag rig... but its unique if nothing else.... just a few more details on this one.... once I complete the weathering on the Cornbinder 2575.. Cheers all ! JIMMY

Jimmy, Interesting yard truck.I think it looks good. I also like the fact that it is sort of a what if build. Seeing that you built the motor after some other application. Cool build!
