Nothing wrong with box stock. I've been known to build em also, specially if I misplace my razor saw and other implements of kit destruction. Very nice combination build of the old ERTL international and the AMT Peerless Road runner Log trailer. I only have one comment and that is; the dog tray for stowing the binders, between the truck frame is too far forward and should be in the space in front of the rear quarter fenders. Makes it easier to get at. ;D Also a small hint cause I know Mike will catch it, on your next build of a logger, you need to add about three to five scale feet of frame extension, from the center of the rear axle to create a stinger where the trailer attaches. Trailer comes more in line with the rig when loaded and does not bind when going into a turn. I'm attaching a photo of a long logger rig so you can get an understanding of what I mean. Also note the safety chains at the rear for attaching to the trailer in the down haul position. Once again a very nice build and the colors match up great. I've always liked the old International from ERTL. It was one of their best kits. William

Well even though i am very partial to the Mac brand, If you are going for the west coast type the KW is the ticket. East coast is more short wheel base tractors, with 5th wheel hay rack trailers. 12x24 rubber on spoke wheels, and very little chrome. Ap40

Looks real good. I drove a paystar for a few years. It was not a log truck but still a paystar. Dave

I wasn't going to say anything as I don't want to seem negative towards anyone's builds but being William brought it up................... cool! I can blame him, I'll show you some "stingers" as we call them. They are necessary to steer the trailer correctly................................. This is a double taperered one. It tapers down as well as toward the middle.................. Hosted on FotkiNext is a standard "long frame" type which is just an extended frame........................ Hosted on Fotkiand finally this stinger can go two ways, permanent or removable for a quick change................. Hosted on FotkiHope this helps in the future. Mike

Ok, & cool. So for a 1950's 60's vintage west coast logger, what was the norm for the stinger? straight frame or tapered? Ap40

Cal, Real good looking rig you've built there! And I am sitting here making notes for when I do build a logging truck. I saw a good example of a Florida log trailer yesterday but I did not have my camera with me! They load the long thin pine trees on them and haul them to the paper mills near here! And sometimes the loads look ... well I stay away from them!!

Rick,
Out here, we used both as it was a transition era for the logging truck. Although the square was dominate in the fifties, The taper began to show up more and more in the sixties, until now it has became a move to the adjustable stinger which now slides into the rear of the frame and can be pulled in and out to adjust the length.
I have some pictures of the adjustable type which I will post as soon as I can upload them to Photobucket which might help everyone in under standing the stinger concept.

The "Taper" is the newer but it seems to offer more room under your load for grabbing wrappers and the such plus it it less likely to bind up if you go over a big rise. Logging roads are primitive at best you know. Mike
