Loghauler and I went over to the Coos Bay Railroad museum today and I saw a picture there which caught my eye. It was of a young cooks helper standing along the railroad track with what looked to be coffee pots. I didn't put two and two together at first but when I looked at it again it dawned on me what I was looking at. The pots were used by the Cook House for supplying coffee to the Engine crews as they passed through the camps on their way to and from the Mill with loaded and unloaded trains. But the thing that really caught my eye was the fact that for the last twenty some years I had kept in my collection a pot which was identical to the one they were holding in the photo! It was given to me by a lady who used to live in Powers, Oregon up below Eden Ridge, and she had it for many years. They I found out at the museum are hard to come by and prized by collectors. They were made by Willamette Equipment up in Portland, Or from aluminum and had a brass handle and spiket on them. They also had and aluminum coffee ground basket which is hard to find these days because most were never used with the pot. I found the one I have got is complete as they come from the factory and is dated 1919 on the bottom. I have no idea what it is worth Dollar wise but would like to share it with you guys as a piece of history. See pictures below.
