..This kit as said in title has very sentimental value to me,my mom got this kit for me Christmas '84 and for many reasons it never got started and ended up in storage until recent when Baby Girl n I was cleaning out the garage to get the Corvair running after a 15 year hibernation, the kit along with others was stored in the front deck of the "Vair".....This Kenny is gonna be named "Annie" after my mom who passed 5 years ago........ The kit....What an ill fitting kit and the plastic is very brittle, found out the hard way trying to persuade a few pieces to the right shape The inspiration and look I am trying for. The work in process so far,I destroyed the sleeper that came with the kit but thankfully aitruckmodels.com to the rescue and the hood from Paul S. Removing them joint lines on the tank Some slight modifications to the cab, removal of air cleaner opening, exhaust mounting holes...and a broken vent window frame from clumsy fingers Nothing great, just a lil detail... The only "Flash" in the cab. What a kidney buster for any passenger This kit is giving me fits, the frame is warped bad and every time I work it in place three days later it goes back a little, suggestions comments more than welcome, good bad or otherwise.....

Mike,
Try soaking the frame in a pan of hot tap water and then laying it upside down with some weight on it for a day of two. I do this with a lot of warped frames.

Mike,
Nice progress, I agree with William on the warm to hot water. Judging by the yellowed color of the kit styrene, it is good you are building it now. I have a few mid 80's AMT kits with the same super brittle styrene.
So if you are building a tilt hood, what are you doing with the Alaskan Hauler parts?

I'm a big fan of fleet trucks so I really like your choice of prototype. Kidney buster passenger seat.......that's authentic! Our '89 International boom truck has the same sort of thing on right hand side, seat frame bolted solid to the floor!

you did a fine job on the interior!any paint on the cab yet? Thanks!!!,no paint on the cab yet the warped frame is giving me fits to the point its sitting on the back burner.....Hmmmmmm maybe I should try the back burner to un-warp the frame ;D ,actually if this humid heat would stop I could shoot the cab............

that's why I don't get all excited when they re-issue AMT kits.been down the road you are on! was really surprised I didn't have a lot of frame issues with the Freightliner DD kit.

"Annie" is taking shape nicely, paint looks good and smooth. Air line plumbing is well done, only correction to point out is that on smaller brake chamber there should only be one air line running to it, the blue one going to side of chamber. Photo is of a trailer axle however application is the same, this style brake chamber is for the service brakes only: Larger chamber with 2 lines into it is for both service and parking brakes, often called a "piggyback" chamber as parking brake section is "piggybacked" onto service brake chamber:

Robert, thanks for pointing that out on the air lines on the front tandem,I wasn't quite sure and I had one reference picture from another forum that was done that way and I didn't look close enough at the pictures of the new chambers.....ummm err uhh the one that looked like a fitting was a mounting stud ,again thanks,a simple enough fix!!!!....any reference on the routing of the air tanks n such??
