I wanted to try my hand at ship modeling, so a friend of mine gave me a 1/700 Arii USS Fletcher to try out. Well, that was in 2000, and I finished it in February 2009. I finialy built it for a Group Build on another Forum. I added P/E railings, nets, & helecopter blades form Flagship Models. The warning circles, Fruit Salad, Efficiency "E"s, and ASROC launcher are from Jag Collective. The kit had a Tomahawk VLS on the fordeck, but I backdated it to the ASROC. I also added metal anchor chain. Here's what I was going for: I guess in a way it's still not really done. I need to add rigging, flags, and a ocean base.

This is what I like to see. The other side of the big rig modelers. Ships have always been a sort of third place favorite of mine and you did a fine job onm this one, especially with the fine scale details. Wow!

Jim,
Great departure from the comfort zone.

Thanks, Rick. I didn't really have a "comfort zone" when I built this. I was just getting back into modeling, and was experimenting. Once I picked up the Revell USA Snap Peterbilt 359, I knew I wanted to get back into trucks. Not that ships aren't fun (I have a USS Ticonderoga CV14 & USS The Sullivans DD537 both in 1/700 in the stash), I just like trucks better.

Nice to be well rounded Jim, I have to confess for still having 100 or so muscle cars in the stash, along with 1:48 scale aircraft, 1/35 scale military (but they are all trucks), and several of the old AMT Batman kits. Thanks. Yes, there are a lot of pieces when you consider it's only 9" long, and I added more with the P/E railings. The helicopter rotor blades are P/E as well. The kit ones were just too thick & too short.

Very nice. I don't envy you working with the rigging and rails in 1/700, I am too old and blind!!!! It sure does look good!!
Is this where I admit to having finished the 1952 and 1953 Batmobiles? Why didn't he have a Batruck to transport them....or a Batrailer hideout...or.... never mind, too many projects now. I am going back and look at the ship some more.

Now that would be an interesting project for someone on this Forum. Design a bat-semitruck around the Batman T.V. Series or the Movies.!!! Any body up to it?
