This is the second in my series of agricultural dioramas A few years back, Ertl produced a series of 1/25th scale toy/diecast combines. Most of these were all metal low detail toys with little potential for upgrading. The exception was the 7980 Massey Ferguson combine. It had a diecast metal base but the superstructure was made from injection molded plastic. While it was very toy like, the fact that it was plastic allowed for easier conversion to a more accurate model. This combine became the centre piece of a diorama set in early fall that I call “Harvest Time” The rubberized plastic hand rails were all replaced with copper wire railings. The black plastic slab cab was replaced with a scratch built clear cab and interior. I also added lights, ladders, and new air cleaners. The tractor is an Ertl repop of their JD 4430 kit while the wagons are scratch built gravity bins on Ertl dump wagon frames. The corn stocks were made from broom straw and paper leaves. The cobs are dianthus flower heads, while the kernels are made from corn meal. The corn meal appears more washed out in the photos than it actualy is. Thanks for looking Carl

Super nice rework of a toy, and the corn is spot on!
It is always sad that there are so few makes any farming equipment in 1/25 scale. Just the load potential has so much to offer to truck modelers.
There are a few European tractors in die-cast 1/25 from the maker ROS. Would love to have a 1/25 Cat Challenger or a IH-Case quad track.
