This small machine was designed to clear trails in the woods. Here is a video of a guy using one in his garden. Note! He's about as smooth as a bastard file. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMi8jQs1qhUThese were designed in Portland OR for the Forest Service by the US Forest Service, Equipment Development Laboratory and built by Western Gear in Seattle, WA in 1946 when 25 of them were built. Google it or click on this web site...................... www.rokonworld.com/trailbeetle/beetle.htmlThis is just dying to be scratch built by one of you. Heris a couple of photo's............ Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiBelieve it or not, I found out about this on a Hot Rod forum. Mike

Just to add an extra twist to the conversation, here are some pics of a very similar crawler, also called a Beetle. I took these pictures at a Steam show in near Chesley Ontario a few years back. This unit was made in Quebec and the name plate on the machine Thanks Carl
