Hallo all
As far as my logger projects are parked in the backyard because of some parts that are missing I decided to start something totally different. I like a lot all this trucks which use the same cab as the pick-ups. For example, Ford or GMC. Because of this I decided to build up a truck with a special appearance. It will be a 1964 Ford NT-950 Diesel. A tandem axel heavy duty tractor used to pull a low bed for moving logging equipment around.
The idea behind it:
1964 Ford NT-950
Cummins NHC-250 diesel engine
12 speed Spicer transmission
Full air brakes front, rear and parking
Parts used:
Resin cab with fenders and fuel tanks from Dan Silvestru (miniaturmodels@yahoo.com) from Dan-Models
The frame, front suspension, rear rims, fifth wheel and many other parts from the GMC Astro AMT
The front axel from Italeri
The rear axel from the White Road Boss AMT
The front rims from the IHC Transtar ERTL
The tires from the Kenworth Dump Truck Revell
The engine and transmission from the Kenworth Alaskan Hauler AMT
First all the parts from the resin kit

Now to the build. The frame was glued together like the original one. Then I reworked an old front Italeri axel and glued it together with parts from the original one from AMT. So the movable axel fits perfect to the front kit sprigs. Then the front fenders from the resin kit were placed and glued to the frame. Now the cab was placed on the frame and the holder for the cab were reworked and glued to the frame. The next step was the front bumper. Then the fuel tanks were placed to the frame and glued together with some self made holders. The fuel lines were placed into the frame and are now waiting for the engine. The next step was the steering system. Here some pics to see how all came together
Here you can see some shots with the reworked hood which now is movable. As far as it was very late in the night where I reworked this, I made some mistakes with the hinges. They are not very realistic so I have to rework them in the next days.
This time I decided to put the engine first in place and then do all the plumbing in wiring. I think doing it like this will make it easier that everything fits together. And here we start with the problems. First I decided to use the Cummins V-555. The only engine you get in 1:25 is the V-8 903 from ERTL but the engine is too big. No chance to fit it under the doghouse. The second idea is to use a Cummins NH 220 or a NHC 250. Using the AMT standard Cummins would be ok. The next step will be to look how this engine can fit under the doghouse. Not quiet an easy job! So I have to change some parts like the intake manifold and many other parts to make them suitable to the frame and cab.
That’s all for now. I hope to have some time on the weekend to go on with that project.
So long
