I decided I couldn't end January without starting a completely new build. So I went to the stash. I started the Moebius Lonestar semi tractor. I have seen several builds and decided I had better get one going. First nights work was painting and minor assembly of the engine. The second day, I did more assembly, most of the detail painting and a black wash. It is hard to believe that just this engine has over ten hours in it already. The photos show where I need to do a little touchup. Did I mention, I really hate the Moebius instructions? No exploded views, just written instructions and a couple of color images of the completed engine. The kit on the other hand, is great. I can tell, this won't be a quick build! I just figured out; I can use the Prostar instructions and the Lonestar instructions together to make the build easier. The Prostar instructions show the build detail, even though some of the parts and part numbers are different.

Great start to a great modern kit. After so many years of building pre-emission truck models, it is interesting to see a truck kit engine with a EGR cooler & related apparatus.

Ap40 Yea, too bad it didn't work on the MaxxForce15 (which is what's in the kit). It is not that it did not work on the MF15, it is just not enough to meet the requirements of EPA2010 emissions regulations. Navistar just would not give in to the reality of EPA2010 = the need for a DPF & SCR, which is why all current production is either MF-11 & 13 with Cummins filtration exhaust after treatment or ISX-550 as a complete package from Cummins. I like this engine because it is different, but I may consider a new resin offering meant for this chassis. I believe this engine (MF15) was only used for one year (?) and discontinued in 2012. Comment? ? The Cummins ISX15 (550) sounds like a good alternative engine for the kit, since that is what is offered in the newer Lonestar. I am very happy to have a more modern generation of trucks! Maybe in a year, Moebius could put out a Workstar or Loadstar!!!

As much as I like the classics it is very nice to see modern trucks in kit form. After all, they are what we see on the roads every day. Hopefully that will help interest new members to the truck modelling hobby. Seeing your project underway makes me want to dig into my "stash" - and perhaps add one more of each to it! (Lonestar and Prostar)

Thank you for the offer to send instructions from Revell! I got a set and started using them. What a difference. Now, I am enjoying the kit rather than struggling with it. Again thanks for the offer.

The work has kind of stalled because I have the frame done enough to start measuring and planning for the next day cab Lonestar. It is great to have this one to use for a mock-up to plan the frame cuts, before I complete it. I can't start the day cab version until March 15th because I am thinking of doing it as community build project for another forum.
