Thanks Gator - it is a bit of extra work to document different steps (I do forget to take pictures of some steps) but rewarding in the end. Tail lights in this kit are actually quite good especially after removing licence plate mount and replacing with a .010 styrene piece.

Super nice Rob, between this build of yours & the one done by Turbo590, I am sort of starting to like that general kit....

Thanks Dave! Muffler made from 3/8" styrene tube, exhaust pipe itself made using parts from those always useful "snap" W900 & 359 kits. 3 of the molded 90 degree exhaust elbows cut from "snap" kit stack and assembled as required. Section of aluminum tube runs right through muffler and slips over exhaust pipe, band clamp detail simulated with .030 x .060 styrene strip and some bolt head castings: And an appropriate post for Feb 14 - frame & wheels painted red. Looking more like a truck now but still lots to be done:

Robert, Definetly some progress being made. The chassis looks good in red. Looks like you will be finishing this one pretty soon.

The fiddly bits will take a while yet, did make a start on some of them today: Mirror brackets are .030 styrene rod, ends flattened with smooth jaw pliers. Assembly is surprisingly strong when completed. In the case of this truck the job is made easier by Carling's painting everything red except mirror heads so I can assemble them right on the cab.

In primer, short term forecast calls for red paint soon.......While brackets are painted red mirror heads are chrome so will be finished with Alclad and added later: Quarter fenders will also be finished in Alclad as they were stainless with chrome cross bar on the real truck. Starting point was parts from AMT Kenworth kit, all cast on details removed. Crossbar is 3/32" styrene tube, braces are .035" styrene rod with ends flattened. Small bolt heads are from Tichy Train Group, .020 brass wire bent for U-bolts holding crassbar to frame: Styrene strip bracing added under hood, insulation texture simulated with pieces cut from 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper:

Engine in place, what looks like wiring version of a bad hair day is loose ends coming from frame which will go to various locations on firewall once cab installed. Notches cut into hood top where handholds are provided on grille shell, .030 x .250 styrene strip on inside of hood to represent built out area on fiberglass hood for handhold clearance. Doesn't really show up in photo but hood ornament broke off base while cleaning part up, substituted .032 brass wire rather than try regluing plastic part.

Thanks Gator, that is a nice shade of red. It is actually spray can enamel from the Canadian hardware chain Home Hardware, their name for it is "Chinese red". In a fit of cross-eyed madness this afternoon, got lettering applied. Microscale # 90101 letter/number set from their HO scale model railroad selection provided decal lettering, applied one letter at a time. Actually didn't go too badly, using waterslide decals permitted checking and correcting alignment as I went along. Shield logo was drawn on CAD, printed on Testors white decal paper.

fantastic, as you are knows for. really enjoy all these "fleet" trucks, there are so many more worker bees than long haul titans. The modeling potential is limitless.

Thanks guys - Rick, I feel the same way about "plain 'ol fleet trucks", I'm sure that's at least partly because those are the kind I get to drive! Justin - this one will make the trip down to Utica, can't say 100% if it will be complete or still a W.I.P. April 6 seems a long way off but activites keep getting in the way of modelling time, got home from yesterday evening's fire training at.......midnight!

My drills are 2 hrs long 7-9PM and if we happen to go past 9 people are just leaving and then complaining later that drill went past 9. LOL
