When I was younger almost all logging towns which were established around a major Lumber Company had its own fire units and were usually stationed on the mill property. They were volenteers from the mills or the town, much like the rural volenteer Fire Departments which coexisted around them, then and now. My build depicts one such mill town rig, built by the lumber Company and stationed within the limits of the Mill and its worker village. The model started out as a ERTL 4300 Transtar which I modified into a 4200 unit and added the tank and fire equipment. The tank is the back half of a Lindberg Tanker which was modified to fit the standard Transstar frame. I then added the Hose Reel to the back behind the fire tool box on top of the tank. All Hosing is made out of Leather twine for jewelry which I purchased at Michells art center. I replaced the Transparent Hose in the inside of the pump housing in the back with this twine also. There are a few minor details which must be added and the model will eventually be decaled for my collection of Simpson Great White Fleet out of Humboldt County California.

That's just the way many 1:1 volunteer/rural fire apparatus was built - make do with what ya got! Sharp addition to your fleet.

Good looking tanker, william. The leather laceing works well for your hose reel. It looks like a good investment to protect your logging fleet

Bill, That is really cool. I knew I was looking at that leather cording for a reason. You just convinced me!! lol The only thing on your build I question. Is the light bar, I am not sure that style is that old? But great job on the rig. And good use of that tanker kit!

Looks really good Bill. The hose looks very good, I am going to have to get some, looks like it would make a good fuel house also. Anyway a very nice water truck. Dave

William,
super, and like Robert said, small - rural - volunteer country town! we have several towns around us that have similar "shop" built water wagons.
Great attention to detail, especially nice to see the hood cut down to the 4200.
The town just west of me, has a old milk tanker trailer pulled by a former town 6x6 plow truck to get the water to the country fires.
So slick, great model and VERY inspiring.
