Cal,
Are you building the reach off of the one I posted in the lunch room posting I made, where I showed three different types? if so I would say from the flaps back about Three scale feet long. inside the frame up to the rear axle but not over it. When the axle floats, it would be banging and scrapping the axle, preventing its normal movement. On the rear of the frame itself, I would add about one to two scale feet to give you enough room for alowance of the stinger, so as to no interfere with the axles.
Since you are using a Snapper Kenworth, the air ride suspension on the snapper will be to light and should be upgraded to a hendrixson spring unit or something of that nature or an 8 bag heavy duty air ride.
Again look at the stingers I posted in the pictures and in the meantime I will go to the Logging company shop next door and get a few side shots of a stinger rig like you building, when the rigs start to come in.
Other than the few discrepencies I mentioned this build has the potential of being a nice build of a logging truck.

Have you got a revell KW or a Pete so you could look at the suspension on one of those and use it as a guide to upgrade this one? Other than that I would say go ahead and build it as is and not make any changes as the wheels and tires will hide most of it anyway.
The reach looks great and just right from what I can tell from the pictures. When the whole rig comes together, we'll be able to tell better.
Keep up the good work as it will pay off in the end.

Nice looking and comin along great. I remember one of the early trucks I drove which had screening over the open part of the rail like that. Was to keep the driver or who ever was on the frame from puttin a leg in the hole. Don't see it very often, but some do it.

I cut the ends off the trunnion and used a copper pin so the axles move up and down. I just need to find some tires and rims for the trailer( THEY GOT DONATED TO A DETACHABLE LOWBOY THAT I SOLD ON E-BAY!!!)
