I would like to share with you an earlier build of mine and it's this Barko Loader. As you can see by the dates on the pictures, it's been a while since I built this. But I do plan on pulling it down one day soon and reworking it. It needs some modifications and some parts put back on it that have fell off from moving and such. This is why as I asked you William about your loader. I don't think too many people are using this kind of set up too much any more but this is what I cut my teeth on. So I hope you enjoy them. Thanks for looking Kerry Once again Thanks for looking

Kerry,
It is a fine model of a log loader. I dfon't see anythingt wrong with the grapples. There are a few Barko units around here on the job but not many. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. One thing I would recomend onn it is a safty cage framing over the loader Cabin and protective bars on the windows. Most logging units have them ibnstalled for protectin of the operator as there is a lot of flying materiasl which can go through the Cabin glass.
The only other thing I can see which needs to be added is a counter balance weight to the rear of the loader to balance out the weight of the logs which it is lifting. This also takes the stress of the turning towers bearings which the loader rides on. Equalising the stress on the loader also keeps the tower mount from breaking loose from the main decking underneath.
One other thing I would add is a protective cage over the knee hydro on the boom to keep stray log butts from hitting it and doing damage to it. If the rain stops enough today I will go down to the shop and get a few pics of the safety unit on the cabin, the counter balance weight on the rear and the knee hydro Cage protector. It will be a deere Unit but will show what I am trying to explian.
Although this looks to be a 625 range loader or smaller for small materials handling, I would still add the weight to the rear of the loader.
Other than that its a great build of a truck mounted loader.

Here are thre pics I was talking about. The protective cage on the Knee Joint. Counter Balance weight at rear of loader. The grapples. Notice also the hydro lines go into the framing of the swivel joint for protection against damage. This unit also has jet age non breabkable glass on the cabin, but I am also attaching a picture of our old Prentice so you can see the protective cage on the cabin, and barred cover on the windshield. The top part of the safety cage bars are removed in this photo but when the are installed they go all the way to the top of the cage front. Also there is a set which goes on the rear window. William

I understand completely William about the counter weight and protective gear. I'll put that on my list. But I was thinking after looking at it that the front or the outer most boom was just too long and needs to taper down more to the grapple. Because normally those booms reach to just in front of the truck radiator and they clamp the grapple to a spot there to hold it while transporting it. This one reaches way past that point. But anyways thanks so much for your input and the pictures. It's all very much appreciated. Kerry

Kerry,
Nice build, that loader would look great on any truck chassis! Nice to see a Barko, around here if it is not a Prentice, it is not on a truck.
Thanks for sharing,
Ap40

Great build Kerry. I just saw a loader very much like this sitting in a field near Paisley Oregon on Thursday, it was even sitting on a Mack. I tell you though your build is in a heck of a lot better shape than the one I saw in the field Anyway I really like your loader it turned out very nice. Dave

Appreciate it guys. As soon as I get the time I do plan making the changes to it. The Mack I see here has lost part of it's stack. You guys have a great Memorial Day. I salute all of our vets and soldiers. Kerry
