Let me see if I can help you here. From front to rear- 2-6-6-2 Mallet, Two trk Shay, 2-6-2T, Three trk Willamette, 2-8-2 consolidated, another 2-6-2T

My guess was a publicity shot for the Lokie power of the lumber company. Lumber Companies which had rail lines did that a lot back then.

Yep publicity, all of those will pull differently, so together something(s) will break.
the same holds true today with the big diesels, keep them the same for the right pull.
