Well here is my first built model post. This A-car was started several years and shelved after a move. Late last year I broke it out again and resumed work on it. The scow end is removable as it mounts like the tail gate would. This was modeled after a truck that worked in my area several years ago. The bed is reinforced with angle iron to help protect it from boulders and large clods of hardpan. The mirrors and horn came from the Italeri parts pack. The rear tailboard was semi scratch built. This truck was almost consigned to the parts box, after a piece of diecast equipment fell on it and broke the chassis in two places. Fortunately I got it rebuilt/ I hope you enjoy the pictures. And as aleays any comments are welcome! Be Well Gator

Now thats one hefty looking Autocar Dump. And I love the Gator on the tail gate. Also the screened in tail lights is something you don't see everyday. I also want to comment on the ribbing in the bottom of the box. I have seen a few dumps out here with ribbing, but not to many. They were used mainly for heavy rift and rock on a logging site up in Cottage grove, above where Dave lives. Really a great build there and shows the shop custom build for a specific job.

Gator, Super sharp, so familiar is the welded angle iron "bed hardening" for hauling rip rap.
The scow end dump box is great, looks the part on the autocar DC.
Thanks for sharing,
Rick

Thanks guys for all the kind words. It was a fun build though frustrating at times. Rick I am partial to the scow end on dumps. Just something about the look! And I know that you and William know about the angle iron in the bed I thought it would add a little to the overall model. The gator logo I got from a conveyor manufacturer down in south Florida. I had some made up as decals by a friend years ago. I need to get more!

Be Well Gator Gator, Most of the bed hardening we used in the quarries was angle iron, as you did but welded in side by side, with no gaps. This adds tremendous wear resistance when hauling the hard rock. We also used flat bar stock, 3/4" thick x 6" wide, spaced out with 2" between. this stuff was made by Hardox, very high tensile strength, extremely tough, and pricey, but cheaper then building a new box. Great build Gator, I like rock trucks. My dad ran rock crusher for a company here in Oregon and they had a bunch of old Macks that were off highway log trucks at one time, anyway they turned them into pit trucks and what the used on the floors for ribbing was oild railroad iron. They did not have to worry about weight as they were not out on the road. Anyway Gator you did a great job I really like this build. Dave
