Every time I see one of these movies, I can't help but wonder how much history became piles of scrap metal in a bone yard at the end of logging's golden era. This unit, Simpsons, Coos Bay logging, GP and the others all had a gold mine of history in the making yet at the time did not realize the importance of saving the lot for future generations. Now most of it has vanished to the torch and long gone. And only a few memories remain of the loggers and operator who worked beside them and with them, all become the dust of history blowing across a once proud industry. Maybe on a cool summer night in the mountains though the ghosts of these men and machines can still be heard as they make their never ending way to and from the mountains with shrill ghostly whistles and the roaring echo of steam parting the cool night air. So thus is history and time marches on.
Thanks Mike for the memory.
