These photo's taken in 1955 are of the steam donkey at the National Mill Pond at National, WA. The mill and the town are long gone. This use to lie between Elbe and Ashford, WA on Hwy 706. Hosted on FotkiAnd this is Number 802 about to cross the Mountain Highway (SR 706) heading out of National, WA mill site. I hauled many logs into the re-load not far from here and then watched them pass by my home on the Milwaukee RR. Hosted on FotkiMike

Now these are really cool. Steam in action. Was the pond turned into a lake or wildlife reserve as that's what they do with all of them here in Oregon.

Probably drained as it was filled with water from the Nisqually River...............I think. I use to go by the end of the mill on the logging road and then cross the river and run miles up into the forest but that bridge is also gone. Mike
