Rain? In the Pacific Northwest? You're kidding, right? ;D We've been getting so much rain lately I believe the ranchers in the lowlands are putting water wings on their cattle. The sun pops out once in a while, but I think its just to check for any dry spots the rain missed and then it starts again. Then again its like the old saying goes," People in Oregon and Washington don't tan, they rust!" and WD-40 is the Best tanning lotion on the market.

As I mentioned before this cab is also available from Ap40. Not entirely true, this Sterling is a special casting, not a "for sale" item. The Peterbilt 344/ 354DT/ 380 are from the old Silver State Specialties line, which can be cast to order, but are very rough & less than accurate. Ap40

I'm trying to reproduce this rig from a description which was given to me from a friend of mine named Ike who lived in Myrtle Point during the winter months and then worked in Alaska during the summer as a hook tender for a logging Crew. The truck is the first job he had when he went to Alaska and was mostly put together by the shop crew and used off hiway on one of the islands. Ike called her old Rickety and said she was a bitch to drive but none the less got the job done. I am doing this rig off of numerous napkin drawings which Ike did and also by his description as he couldn't remember a lot about it without scribbling on paper. Ike has long passed on to that great logging crew in the sky but the memory of what he told me will live for a long time to come in this model. Curb side showing the shop application of the chain drive and the duel driver setup. I had to use two old Mack chain drive system's out of my Mack grave yard to do this setup as he described it. The rig also had a small diesel engine which Ike said he thought was a cummins but wasn't sure. So that reason for the stack. The small bunker tank is for the water cooled brakes on the trailer as the braking unit for the truck was in the main drive sprocket housing located on the frame in front of the front duels. The box air filter was built in the shop also. The front fenders were cropped on the back side and shortened up. Drivers side view shows the wig wag signal which was seldom used as there wasn't much use for it in the first place. Ike said it looked nice just hangin on the rack. The extra fuel can was for diesel as the gauge in the rig never did work according to Ike. Front view showing the extensive weathering and the Wooden Bumper which was used on a lot of these older offers. I still have a lot of cosmetic work to do on the cab including the interior to the cab. I am presently awaiting parts to finish her up. Rear view showing the Small Water tank on the frame and the rebuilt drive axles which I made out of aluminum tubing and Evergreen Plastic. The coupler on this rig will be a heavy duty link and pin unit which was also extensively used back when this truck was running. She has nine foot bunks from cheese block to cheese block. The bar on the back of the bunk is for the front trailer duels to rest on when the trailer was carried in the saddle. The rear duels rested on the two bars on the stinger end. As with most offers of the day this one will not have tail lights and will only have headlights and the standard two cab marker lights. All in all this is a cool build to construct and shows a lot of the ingenuity which loggers can put into a working rig built from wrecks and parts on sight. Also she will be a fitting memorial to some one who taught me so much about the logging industry of old. There was many others but Ike stands out among them.
