Mark (Loghauler70) and I were discussing the Moebius International Lone Star when it first came out and what uses it could be put to. Mark built one box stock and added a tanker behind it and it looked pretty darn nice for a hwy rig. But how would the same highway rig look if it were applied to logging?
We decided first of all, the cab would have to be a day version and I traded Mark out of a Lone Star Kit and began the process of sitting down a few months and trying to figure out how to take a totally Interstate type rig and turning it into a Logging truck.
The problem: How take an Interstate designed truck, and build it into a working Logger.
The solution: Use the parts from an ERTL/AMT International 4300 and combine the two.
The other problem: Taking the Lone star Cab and redesigning it into a Day Cab. Almost impossible with out a massive amount of work. The solution a resin conversion cab which Mark obtained and I forget where, and adding the interior pieces from the Original lone star cab. The conversion involved cutting the floor panel and the side panels of the original and fitting them into the resin Day Cab. After cutting and assembly the interior surprisingly fit snug into the day Cab with very little problem. A back wall piece had to be made for it and the rear cab window cut out but as far as everything went, it was as smooth as a Buckskin Log sliding down a grassy knoll. The results are on the left and the original cab is on the right.
Here are the results of the combining of the two kits with the yet to be painted Day Cab conversion. The rear of the frame has yet to be extended and the bunk location a little more defined. The head ache rack is in temporary to support the cab. But the result were promising I think.
