Hello guys, This crane has been under constuction for a while and I was invited to join this site and I'm glad I did so I can share my crane with youand now, after a long time I'm excited....I am finally ready to do some rigging for the boom. After painting and a few more additions this thing will almost be ready to go. The first few photos is the boom under construction. This is a 1968 Manitowoc 2900WC Crawler Crane (or there abouts) I have earlier photos of this build, if you want to see Now it's kinda big so I couldn't get a close up and keep it all in the picture. But as I said, after some touch up and some paint....well... this thing is about 95% complete. I still need to make the part that holds the sheaves up next to the boom that supports the boom from the gantry and run my cables. But you can see what or where it's at now. More later and I want to thank you for looking Kerry

Thanks Dave, I finished building the "fly" I think it's called and after some dry time and some paint, I'll run the cables and rig the boom. I also put the cat walk togther that goes on the operator side. But it is almost there. Then I can begin the redo of the trailer and my heavy hauler this baby will fit on. Later guys and thanks for viewing

Kerry,
Well i have been around crawler cranes for a long time, but never heard of a part called a "Fly"......
The cat walk assembly looks great, next to it on the left is the bridle, with 2 of the pendant cables attached, looks right on for a 2900.
If you are going to a fixed jib to the boom top, thAp40ose were called fly jibs, but not by lift folks.

Kerry, It is coming together nicely!! And I think other than pictures from the sides a good pic would be like that one looking down at the boom down to the cab!

This is it ! I finally found your post. Outstanding piece of scratchbuild. Such kind of boom in that size isn't an easy task. The other parts are looking good, as well. I wait to see them all painted. After so many years of white styrene, I love to see the models painted. Some weathering and a piece of rust ... would be nice. Kerry, way to go !
Cheers, Alex

Hi Richard, I thought I heard someone refer to that piece as the fly and I thought the name sounded reasonable since it is suspended up there but thank you for clearing that up for me. For the cat walk I would like to have a better material for the actual walking surface but I don't even know if such a thing is made. But the boom has a henge about half way so it can fold up so that I can put it on my heavy hauler. I'll try and get a pic of that. I have to redo my trailer so this thing can fit nicely. Gator I am going to try and paint this parts this weekend if the wife can leave me alone for a bit but I am really eager to see it put together. Alex, welcome and thanks for dropping in, I'm like you, I can't hardly wait to get it painted and put together. The boom wasn't that hard, just time consuming and plastic consuming. ha ha but I don't think I'll do any weathering with it simply because I don't know what I'm doing with that and I don't want to screw this up. Some day when I can focus on learning that I will try. But thanks for your kind comments Alex. Joris and Ryan thank you both for giving a look and your comments also. Gator for one knows of when this thing started and followed it all the way through, to now. I was looking yesterday and I couldn't beleive that I have over 200 photos of this thing from day one till now. Hope to have an update very soon. Thanks again to all for looking and I do apologize for talking so much. Kerry
