As promissed, here are some additional pics of my 1970 American-LaFrance Series 1000 pumper. I built this one for a Group Build on another Forum, and the guys over at The Scale Firehouse really helped me a lot with getting the details right (or at least more correct). The truck itself is box-stock, but I added some details that are omitted from the kit.
First are the booster lines. The "hose" that AMT provides is way out of scale, and the nozzles that are provided are for a 2-1/2" attack line. I replaced AMT's hose with #18 awg red electrical wire. This is closer to the hose that one would find on a reel. The nozzels on the booster line are resin parts made by a member of The Scale Farehouse, as are some of the other doo-dads.
The hard suction hoses were replaced with 1/4" Plastruct tube, as I couldn't get the kit ones round.
On the tail board are an extra 2-1/2" nozzle & a 2-1/2" fog nozzle. I added a Siamese to the curbside pump panel, and there is an adaptor cone on the running board.
The hose bed is planked with wood, and I added 1-1/2" line & 2-1/2" line with couplers & nozzles. I also scratch built a Morse Gate for one of the 2-1/2" lines. The hoses are braided elastic stained sort of a light tan.
On the 24ft ladder, I drilled out the rungs to make them appear hollow, and I added a halyard. I don't have a photo of it, but the ladders are labeled "24" & "12" to correspond to the length. The roof ladder also had the rungs drilled out.
Once all that was done, I scratch built new mirror brackets (didn't like the kit ones), added KFS P/E wipers, and scratch built some brackets for all four axes (two road side & two curbeside) & the pike pole.
Here's a quick interior shot:
I finished this in November 2009.
