William,
I knew you would have answers with out even asking the questions. Those Rossi chain drive rigs were featured in many BF Goodrich ads, all of which are black & white. So now knowing the correct colors.......

Rick,
The Rossi that had these rigs was a cousin to the Rossi wine family producer also. One of their family members is a Bone twister (chiropractor) up here in Myrtle Point. I helped him out by designing signs for him when he was running for county Commissioner of Coos County.

The two last off hi way SDs are as follows. The one which the Wicker frame latournue is loading redwood logs onto or off loading (its hard to tell but the over head guys are a dead giveaway to loading) belongs to Humboldt Fir and is in the Hoopa district. Most likely Happy Camp, Orleans or Witchipek area. Rigs were big ugly yellow and the logo on the door was a light colored red rectangle with white and red lettering which read Humboldt Fir, Hoopa, Ca.
The second rig is a PALCO unit out of Scotia, Ca and is scaling at the Eel river scales off Road at the south of B Mill in Scotia. My Brother-in-law who worked for PALCO for many years drove a unit identical to this on the Eel River Express, from Bull Creek site to Scotia.
The rig would be bright Orange and on the drivers door would be the Logo for PL at that time, which would be a large black "X" which would have one of the Letters T.P.L.Co in each of the triangular indents. PL had about nine of these Big Boys in their fleet of about 75 offers which were used down in the Petrolia, Pepperwood, Bull Creek and on to Shelter Cove and Fort Bragg Area. They also had a few stationed out of the Phillipsville area in the Benbow Inn area of the Avenue of The Giants.

Fantastic William!
Now i have more ideas to model. The Palco Mack LMSW-L your son built, what division would that have been from?

That rig was from the Van duzen division east of the Eel River which extended from the Van duzen river at its mouth on the Eel River up to Ruth Lake about 150 miles to the East on Hiway 36. In this area you would begin to run into the GP, Simpson, Fairhurst, and PALCO offers operating in this area. When the logs came down from the Ruffies to the east they were transfered to the highway rigs for further transporting. Only PALCO had a cut off which ran directly over the pierce range and down into their mill at Scotia. That rig my son built could also have operated on the Eel River Express at times, when needed. Depended on the work load.
Other units which could be seen in this area also was an occasional Sierra Pacific, Cal-Pacific, Carolina-Cal, and Humboldt Fir, from the Trinity Areas east of Humboldt. Most all of the offer roads intertwined at one place or another in Northern California. If you've ever driven them on a week end you know how easy it is to get lost. You could start in Humboldt County and drive for miles taking different roads and come out looking at Mount Shasta over by Interstate five if you wasn't knowledgeable of the area.
