Hello all, decided to crack open a perfectly new kenworth snap kit. One problem i hate sleepers problem solved thanks x acto. Now to the real fun cutting the rest of the roof off to build a SD cab. This is going to be a looooong adventure. Im not sure where i am headed on this yet hence no pics. All i do know at this point it will be a KW, definately off hiway with the SD cab, maybe an 848 or c500 gotta do the cab first lol, then see where we are headed.Other than cab and engine i may have spare parts if anyones interested, oh and the sleeper wil be cannabalized for a new back wall of the cab.thanks for reading pics will come soon if i dont totally blow it. Mike

Thanks slurry dog its not really all to hard i usually use the back of the sleeper for my fill in panel for the rivet details and the big plus its already the same thickness and material as the original. Hopefully the misses can help me get some pics up today before i progress too much further.

Well that is one way to skin a KW cab! Why not email Dave @ AITM and ask if you can buy JUST the cab from his C-500 kit? It is a A series severe service cab, with the deeper dog house into the fire wall.
Then the cab & sleeper unit can be sold off or traded to others!
My 2 pennies...
The project sounds great, looking forward to seeing some photos.

Thanks Rick, if this doesnt go as planned i may go that route. i have always done my daycab conversions this way. Works even better on peterbilts. I have bought some of your resin before and was very well pleased some might end up in this project. Does dave have your 1200x24 with planetarys, and or 5 hole wheels? cant remember, would like to go 5 or two hole fronts and planetary rears cant stand spokes in the real world and my models, neither have been good experiences. Thanks Mike

One more question Rick, if the cab dave sells has a deeper doghouse would that be a set back? Ok two more or so questions first i have always wondered about the dog bones or radius rods that go from under front bumper to front axle, what is their purpose? i understand their use and application on hendrickson etc rear suspensions but havent been schooled on their use on off highway trucks, never see them on highway rigs? and lastly i am pretty well versed in the tires you used to offer but i have never seen the good old 3 rib steering tire, we use them on highway as steer new trailer as caps?

Thanks Mike Mike, Dave has most of my wheels & tires, take a look at his site & if there is something you don't see send me a email. Just about everything real or model i have been involved with has been on spokes. we had those nice & shiny Alcoa 10 holes crack on a heavy haul job once. bad day. Ap40

The deeper doghouse is for the engine to still fit in the engine bay on the C-500A, as the hood was a little shorter & the chassis was designed to handle the Cummins KTA-600 & Cat 3406 series engines. The front radius rods are added in off highway application to keep the front axle in alignment & add strength. since the front axle, weather powered or dead, tends to be what hits things first, the radius rods provide extra strength so minimal extra strain is encountered by the bolts holding the front axle to the springs. Many also have front skid plates to protect the engine sump & bottom of the rad. Steer tires, you are looking for the 3 rib Goodyear "high Miler"? I only made the 2 rib in 11x24, 12x24 & 13.5x24 all were tube type tires. Ap40

Good god man, those 3306's were gutless when new. never seemed to fail that when spec'ing a mixer so many were under powered to the point of get out & push it your self. Like a shop near where i used to live, that had several Paystar 5000's with 8 yard smilth barrels and non-turbo Drip-troit 6-71........ Glad to help on specs and such. Ap40

Mike, This sounds like an ambitious project! I have cut up a few cab overs, but never a conventional cab. Will be watching to see how you do it.
