After completing the Western Star, the tow body parts from the kit kept interesting me, so I started on them. I'm going to put them on a Pete 377 frame. My build will be (very loosely) based on this. The main body is already assembled and painted. Pics when the paint has cured.

At last someone is building the actuall truck rather than the kit which totally wrong. The LA Fire Dept does not have a WS as a tow truck in their fleet. From what I have read about them they have a K-Whopper and Pete, the one pictured. Will be watching this build.

When I first saw the Italeri kit, I just knew they had it all wrong! Mine won't be the actual LAFD wrecker as in the picture; I'm using the Italeri parts and they have started out with the wrong make of tow body in the first place. Nevertheless I'm going to build a 377 with that body in the LAFD livery. Some extras of my own, and some kit stock. I'm not that well-educated in the wrecker-department, so it probably won't be like the real deal, but I'm going to make a nice one and have fun doing it.

The wrecker body fresh from the paint booth. I hope the red blob is clear enough to see the contours in; at least the paint covers well. A lot of detailing needs to be done on it.

It is going to be a really nice looking truck when you get it done. Looking foward to seeing it when finished. Dave

looks good so far, although the BRO wrecker body might be a bit short for the look of the real truck.

Thanks everybody! Yeah, I know that the Bro body isn't totally correct. That's why I'm not saying I'm building the real truck, it's going to be a so-called 'artists' impression' of it. Of course I could butcher the Can Do kit for a more realistic wrecker, but I want to build that one like the real one somewhere later in time.

Thanks Gator! It's nothing special once you get the hang of it, it's just a matter of some styrene, filler, a sharp hobby knife and forgetting the fear of screwing up. Got the license today when shipping something out.
